The nature of Yahoo Mail is such that you have to be logged in, if you want to make full use of the service. There are two web addresses, whose entry into your browser’s address bar should take you to the page from where you can sign into Yahoo Mail, namely:
You notice that whether you enter www.yahoomail.com or mail.yahoo.com, you are ultimately directed to the same page, where you find a form into which you can enter your username and password, to log in and start making use of the Yahoo Mail service.
You can access the said Yahoo Mail login page in three distinct ways, namely:
- By entering the stated web addressed directly into your browser application.
- By following a link directing to the Yahoo Mail login page.
- By following a bookmark (if you previously accessed the page, and bookmarked it).
In order to get to log into Yahoo Mail, you need, as mentioned earlier, to undertake a three step process. The steps in that process include:
- Entering your Yahoo Mail username/ID: this will be the ID you created when you set up the Yahoo Mail account, or an alias (if you happen to be one of the lucky people who signed up for Yahoo Mail when it was still accepting aliases).
- Entering your Yahoo Mail password: as you enter this, you will notice that the actual characters won’t be appearing on your screen, but rather, other masking characters (like asterisks or dots). This is how all password fields are supposed to behave, to protect the integrity of the passwords.
- Clicking on the ‘sign in’ button: you can either do this literally, or simply hit the ‘enter’ button, which should transfer you to the inbox page.
Occasionally (but rather rarely), Yahoo Mail may require you to enter a captcha code, in addition to your username and password, in order to log in. This happens when the system ‘feels’ the need to further authenticate you.
Some of the challenges that can make it impossible for you to log into Yahoo Mail include:
- The inability to load the Yahoo Mail login page completely: this can happen due to problems in the Internet connection, or browser configuration issues.
- The inability to remember your Yahoo Mail password: this can be remedied by initiating the password recovery process.
- The inability to remember your Yahoo Mail username: this is rare, and can be hard to remedy, from a technical point of view.
- The inability to go past the Yahoo Mail login page: this too, can either be on account of Internet connection issues, or on account of browser configuration problems.
